The core concept behind the E-Rod is simple: the power supply for the electric reel is built directly into the butt of the rod, eliminating the tangled cords and cumbersome setup that has long been a frustration for kite fishermen and deep droppers. The rods are constructed from 4K carbon fiber with all components machined and assembled in Stuart, Florida. They are compatible with the majority of modern electric reels and available in 21 amp and 42 amp power supply options. A built-in LED indicator keeps track of battery level turning blue at 75%, red at 35%, and flashing red at 10%.

The lineup covered in the review includes the Versit, the all-around base model suited for bottom fishing, lightweight deep dropping, and vertical jigging, a versatile option for anglers of all experience levels, ideally paired with a 300–500 size electric reel. Also featured is the E-Rod Straight Butt, a 5 amp hour, 21 amp handheld unit available with a number two ferrule that can be mounted to a Dominion rod or any preferred rod, making it ideal for jigging, deep dropping, shotgun positions, kite rods, and dredge applications.

On battery life, Jeremy benchmarks it at approximately 30,000 feet of line retrieval per charge, though actual performance varies based on fish size, reel speed, and depth fished. For a standard full day on the water, battery life is not a concern. Additionally, because the E-Rod delivers power at higher amps and voltage directly to the reel, users can expect up to a 30% increase in reel power output compared to conventional setups.
